New Features and Enhancements:

  • In addition to English, the local browser interface now supports German (Deutsch) and Japanese (日本語).
  • Default “password” must be changed when you log into the switch for the first time.
  • To configure SNMPv3, Authentication Protocol must be configured as MD5 or SHA. The ‘none’ option for Authentication Protocol is no longer allowed. 
  • Changed the default setting of the Smart Control Center (SCC) management from enabled to disabled.  Note: SCC Utility can still discover the switch.

Bug Fixes:

  • The format of stored password in firmware v7.0.0.9 and v7.0.0.10 is incompatible with previous versions.  Firmware v7.0.0.20 is now compatible with older versions, with the exception of v7.0.0.9 and v7.0.0.10 when password length is greater than 15 characters. 
  • With FW v7.0.0.11, fan speed is faster resulting in higher acoustic noise even when its ambient temperature is around 25C only. 
  • Fan speed goes up and down every 1 minute. 

Known issues:

  • The stored password format of v7.0.0.9 and v7.0.0.10 is incompatible with v7.0.0.20 if the length is greater than 15 characters.   
    Workaround: Please change password to default “password” before upgrading the firmware from v7.0.0.9 or v7.0.0.10 to v7.0.0.20 or newer version. 
  • The switch incorrectly displays the number of configured IPv6 routes.
    Workaround: Please count the listed static routes in the table.

Firmware Update Instructions (For XS708T/XS716T FW upgrades from version older than v6.6.1.7 to v7.0.0.20):

  1. If the firmware version of your XS708T/XS716T is older than v6.6.1.7, before updating it to v7.0.0.20, please download the v6.6.1.7 image first and follow the firmware update procedure in its release notes.
  2. The Smart Control Center (SCC) tool is required to update firmware from v6.6.1.7 to v.7.0.0.20. https://www.netgear.com/support/product/Smart%20Control%20Center%20(SCC).aspx#download
  3. Make sure that your computer is in same subnet with the XS708T/XS716T. For example, if your XS708T/XS716T IP address is 192.168.0.239/24, set the IP address of your computer to 192.168.0.10/24
  4. Launch Smart Control Center (SCC) tool (v1.1.3.4)
  5. Connect a computer to the switch using port 2 to port 5 of the switch when updating the firmware.
  6. On the SCC tool, click the Discover button.

  7. After your XS708T/XS716T is discovered by the SCC tool, select Maintenance > Firmware.

  8. Click the XS708T/XS716T device in the list, you should see a tick after you select the device.

  9. Click the Download Firmware button, and select the v7.0.0.20 firmware file. The file name should be xs7xxtv7.0.0.20.stk, which is unzipped from the firmware release zip.

  10. Select the Primary Storage radio button and the Run this FW after download check box, then click the Apply button.

  11. Enter the admin password of your XS708T/XS716T. 
    You could either select Run Now to update firmware now, or select a specific time to upgrade the firmware. Click the Apply button. If you chose to run the update process now, the v7.0.0.20 firmware update process will begin.
  12. During firmware update, DO NOT power off the PC or XS708T/XS716T, and DO NOT unplug the Ethernet cable.
  13. You can check the firmware update progress on the SCC tool in the Task tab.When the firmware update is complete, you should see “Complete file transfer; device rebooted successfully” message on the SCC tool.

  14. After the update is complete, select GUI > System Information to verify that the Boot Version is B1.0.0.11 and the Software Version is v7.0.0.20. 

     

Firmware Update Instructions (For XS712Tv2 and XS708T/XS716T FW upgrades from v6.6.3.x to v7.0.0.20)

To update your product’s firmware, follow the instructions in your product’s user manual. To find your user manual, visit https://www.netgear.com/support/, enter your model number in the search box, and click the Documentation button on the product page.

Notes:

  • The released zip contains the switch firmware (xs7xxtv7.0.0.20.stk) and the MIB files. Unzip the file to extract the switch image for firmware updating. 
  • The switch fan will run at maximum speed during the boot stage (for about 2 minutes) after the power cycle; then the speed will change based on its internal device temperature
  • The USB storage device that you attach to the USB port must comply with the following requirements:
    • The USB device must support USB 2.0.
    • The USB device must support FAT32 or VFAT file system. NTFS file system is not supported.
       
  • If your XS708T/XS712Tv2/XS716T device fails to boot up (for example you accidentally unplugged the Ethernet cable during the firmware update), follow the steps below to update the firmware again using the SCC tool:
    1. Connect a PC to the switch using port 2 to port 5 of the switch.
      2.  Follow the steps in the Firmware Update Instruction (For XS708T/XS716T) section above for your XS708T/XS712Tv2/XS716T devices.
