Setting up your router’s 10G small form-factor pluggable (SFP+) for wide area network (WAN) connectivity provides the following benefits:
- Up to 10G speeds on standard RJ45 cables
- Up to 10G speeds for multiple private networks
- Up to 10G speeds on devices connected directly to your cable modem or router
Note: The speed of your connection depends on your ISP. Some ISPs don’t offer 10G speeds.
Note: The speed of your connection also depends on the SFP+ module you are using. The maximum speed of your SFP+ module determines your maximum Internet speeds. For example, even if your ISP provides 2G Internet or above, if you have an SFP+ module that only supports 1G, you only get 1G speeds.
To set up the 10G SFP+ port for WAN on your NETGEAR Nighthawk R8900 and R9000:
- Launch a web browser from a computer connected to your router’s network.
- Visit www.routerlogin.net
- Enter the router user name and password.
The default user name is admin. The password is password. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
The BASIC page displays. - Select Internet.
- Under the “WAN Port Preference” section, select the 10G LAN SFP+ Port (10 Gbps) radio button.
- Ensure that your SFP+ module is connected to your Ethernet cable.
- Click Apply.
After the WAN connection is established, the status next to the 10G LAN SFP+ Port (10 Gbps) button updates to “Connected to the Internet.”
Note: If your SFP+ module is not properly connected and the Internet connection is not established, an error message displays next to the 10G LAN SFP+ Port (10 Gbps) button.
