Set Up a VLAN in the VLAN Wizard Using the Insight App

Insight 5.5 version and newer includes a wizard that helps guide you as you set up your new virtual local area network (VLAN). A VLAN separates devices on the same physical network into different, virtual networks. This lets you restrict access to different parts of your network and regulate traffic flow.

To set up a VLAN in the VLAN Wizard using the Insight app:

  1. Open the Insight app.
  2. If you are an Insight Pro user with access to more than one organization, select your organization.
  3. Select a location.
  4. Tap Locations.
  5. Tap Network Setup.
  6. Tap the + button.The Configure Network page opens.
  7. Enter a network name and description.
  8. Next to Data Network, select the type of network VLAN.
  9. Assign a VLAN Name and VLAN ID.VLAN IDs can be any non-reserved number from 2 to 4087, and 4090 to 4093. VLAN IDs 1 (management VLAN), 4088 (Auto-VoIP VLAN), and 4099 (Auto-Video VLAN) are reserved.
  10. Tap the Next button.
  11. Tap Port Members.
  12. Select the ports on each device that must be members of the VLAN.
    • To select an individual port on a switch, tap it.
      • To make this port an access port (a port with untagged traffic, intended to connect the switch and an end device), tap the Access Port button.
      • To make this port a trunk port (a port where traffic is tagged, intended to connect two switches or a switch and an access point), tap the Trunk Port button.
    • To select all ports on a switch, tap the Select All button.
    • To clear all ports on a switch, tap the Delete button.
  13. To edit your advanced settings, tap the down arrow next to Advanced Settings.
    1. To set the priority of traffic on this network, select a QoS (Traffic Priority) value between 0 and 7. Higher values mean higher priority traffic.
    2. For the attached switch, select individual ports to activate special features such as RADIUS Configuration, MAC Authentication, or IP Filtering.
  14. Tap the Next button.
  15. (Optional) Add a WiFi network.
    1. If you are creating a new wireless network, next to Advanced Settings, tap the + button.
    2. Enable or disable advanced features like Client Isolation (hide clients from each other) or Captive Portal (a special sign-in screen to access this network.)
  16. Tap Next.
  17. Choose DHCP or Static.You can only create a DHCP server if your VLAN is applied to BR500 device ports. If you choose a static address, you must provide a subnet mask and IP address.
  18. Tap the Next button.
  19. (Optional:) If you selected DHCP, enter your server details and tap the Next button.
  20. Select one or more networks that your network will exchange traffic with and tap the Next button.
  21. Tap the Confirm button.
