Smart Roaming enables you to move throughout your home on your supported device and automatically connect to the best available WiFi signal.
Pair your Nighthawk Pro Gaming router with a NETGEAR Nighthawk Mesh extender or Mesh Extender and enjoy seamless WiFi connectivity anywhere in your home. Smart roaming improves your device’s roaming capabilities. As a result, your data connection switches between your router and extender more efficiently.
To use Smart Roaming, you must meet the following requirements:
- Your router and extender must use the same SSID (WiFi network name).
- Your client device must support 802.11k or higher.
Note: 802.11k is an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Wireless LAN (WLAN) operating standard. If your device operates on this standard or higher, you can use the Smart Roaming feature. For example, 802.11n, 802.11ac, and 802.11ax devices are all supported.
- One WiFi Name must be enabled on your extender.
Note: For more information about how to enable One Wifi Name, see How do I enable or disable One Wifi Name on my Nighthawk Tri-Band WiFi Range Extender?.
