Overview
In the current M4300-96X hardware design, we have identified an issue where port cards are connected to slots in combinations 3 and 9 or 6 and 12, the cards do not show port activity LEDs, they do however, pass traffic and show as connected in the interface. Engineering has found the root cause and has provided us with a work around. Engineering has stated it is not possible to add this fix to a firmware update for future release. We will need to handle these cases going forward through support. We do believe this is an extreme corner case since you need to place a port card in the specific slots together with out any other port cards added to any of the other slots. See images below. The same issue is not seen with slot combinations (4, 10), (5, 11), (2, 8) and (1, 7).
Fig. A - Problem condition, port LEDs do not light up and show activity for the attached port cards

Fig. B - This is not a problem condition, port LEDs will show activity for the attached port cards

Workaround
- Download the new CPLD file and send to customer, they need to put on a USB formatted with FAT32. CPLD File
- Plug-in the USB to switch(the USB port on back platform)
- Open console port session and execute command 'dev cpldUpdate(/media/usb-storage/XSM4396_S_0629.jbc,1)
- Waiting about 5 minutes, after upgrade success, power-cycle the switch
- After you power off the PSU, you need to wait for the LED on PSU turns off, and then power on the PSU.
- Re-test with same steps, and the problem will disappear
This should resolve condition immediately upon completing the steps. If you find any other issues about this, please contact technical support.
