To change your NETGEAR click switch’s user interface to Japanese or German:
- Visit NETGEAR Support in your web browser.
- (Optional) Select your preferred language from the drop-down menu at the upper right of the page.
- Start typing your model number in the search box, then select your model from the drop-down menu as soon as it appears.
If you do not see a drop-down menu, make sure that you entered your model number correctly, or select a product category to browse for your product model. - Click Downloads.
- Under Current Versions, select the download whose title begins with Firmware Version.
- Click Download.
- If the firmware download is zipped, unzip the downloaded file to extract the switch firmware image and the bootloader image.
- Make sure that you are using the latest version of the ProSAFE Plus Utility:
- Visit the ProSAFE Plus Configuration Utility product support page.
- Under Current Versions, click the listed version of the ProSAFE Plus Configuration Utility.
- If you are already using the current utility version, continue to step 9.
- If the current version number is higher than the version that you are using, or if you never used the ProSAFE Plus Utility, click Download.
- Unzip the downloaded zip file.
- Double-click on the extracted ProSAFE Plus Utility application file.
The file extension is .exe. - Follow the prompts to finish installing ProSAFE Plus Utility and its required components, including WinPcap and Adobe Air.
- Connect your computer to your GSS116E switch directly using an Ethernet cable.
- Double-click the ProSAFE Plus Utility icon.
The configuration home page displays a list of Smart Managed Plus (Web Managed) Switches on the network.
If you do not see your switch in the network list, click the REFRESH button or close and launch the ProSAFE Plus Utility again. You might also need to configure your computer’s security software to allow broadcast packets to pass through your computer’s UDP ports 63321-63324. To allow this traffic, you can create a rule in your computer’s security software, or temporarily disable the computer’s firewall and antivirus programs. If you temporarily disable any security services, make sure that you reenable those services after the firmware upgrade is complete.
- Select the switch.
- Click the APPLY button.
- Enter the switch’s password in the password field.
The switch’s default password is password.
The Switch Status page displays. - If the firmware release notes specify that you must reconfigure the switch, save the switch configuration settings.
- Select System > Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade.
- Click the BROWSE button and locate and select the firmware file.
- Click the APPLY button.
When the upgrade is complete, your switch restarts. The upgrade process typically takes about three minutes.
To avoid the risk of corrupting the firmware, do not interrupt the upgrade. For example, do not turn off the switch or disconnect it.
- In your web browser, enter your switch’s IP address in the address bar.
- Enter your password to log in to your switch.
- If you are prompted to upgrade your switch’s bootloader, follow these steps:
- Click the BROWSE button and select the bootloader file that you unzipped in Step 7.
The bootloader file name contains the word LOADER. - Click the APPLY button.
When the new bootloader code is successfully loaded onto the switch, your GSS116E restarts. The upgrade might take several minutes.
- Click the BROWSE button and select the bootloader file that you unzipped in Step 7.
Do not interrupt the network connection or power to the switch, or refresh or close the browser window during this process. Do not disconnect any Ethernet cables or power off the switch until the process is complete.
- If necessary, repeat Steps 18-19 to log in to the switch again.
- In the upper right corner of the page, select the appropriate language from the drop-down menu.
The default language is English. - Click YES in the dialog box to confirm that you want to change the user interface language.
The user interface switches to the language that you selected.
