NETGEAR regularly releases firmware updates to improve product performance, add features, and enhance security. To ensure that new features are available on your router, keep your router up to date with the latest firmware.
The easiest way to update the firmware on your NETGEAR router is with the Nighthawk app. Visit nighthawk-app.com to download and install the app.
You can also update your firmware with a web browser. Select the drop-down section below for your preferred method.
To update your router's firmware using the Nighthawk app:
- Connect your mobile device to your router's WiFi network.
- Launch the Nighthawk app.
- Log in to your MyNETGEAR account if prompted.

The default user name is admin. The password is the one you specified when you set up your router. The user name and password are case-sensitive.

The Router Settings page displays. - Scroll down and tap CHECK FOR UPDATES.
- If new firmware is available, tap UPDATE.
CAUTION: To avoid the risk of corrupting the firmware, do not interrupt the update. For example, do not close the browser, click a link, or load a new page. Do not turn off the router.
To update your NETGEAR router's firmware using a web browser:
- Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your router's WiFi network.
- Enter routerlogin.net
The router login window displays.

- Click Firmware Update or Router Update.
The Firmware Update page displays. - Click the Check button.
The router searches for new firmware. - If new firmware is available, click Yes or the Upgrade button.
The router updates and restarts. The firmware update process can take a few minutes.
