Time Machine is an Apple feature that allows you to backup your macOS. Time Machine has historically been supported over the AFP protocol on ReadyNAS. As Apple moves towards SMB and away from AFP, we implemented support for Time Machine over SMB. Time Machine over SMB will be the default option going forward. If you are currently using Time Machine over AFP, you can toggle over to using SMB.

Switching from Time Machine over AFP to Time Machine over SMB

  1. Navigate to your ReadyNAS Admin Page
  2. Go to Backup > Time Machine
  3. At the top right corner, toggle AFP to SMB.
  4. Click Apply.

  3. At the top right corner, toggle SMB to AFP.
