Creating backup jobs and ReadyDR jobs between local devices in ReadyNAS OS 6 is easier with device discovery enhancements. ReadyNAS uses discovery services embedded in most systems within the same broadcast domain. These discovery services are not built into Windows and ReadyNAS cannot automatically detect Windows computers without additional third party support on each Windows machine.
Device Discovery
You can find all remote ReadyNAS storage systems enabled for SMB or AFP using Discover. If a remote ReadyNAS is using 6.9.3 or newer, you can also find systems available for FTP, Rsync, and Rsync over SSH.
When setting up a Backup Job, select the intended protocol and choose Discover when available to locate remote devices.
Device Browsing
Once you've entered in a host, you can click Browse next to the Share field. The ReadyNAS will communicate to the remote destination and allow you to browse the folder structure. If the connection requires authentication, click the Connect As button. Enter the username in the Login field and the password in the password field, then click Connect. The ReadyNAS will authenticate and view the folder structure as that user.
For Rsync over SSH, you can only browse other devices if you have full password-less SSH access. Using ReadyNAS user accounts with Rsync Only enabled in the profile will not be able to browse folder structure.
ReadyDR Discovery and Automatic Key Exchange
When browsing for a host in ReadyDR, you can complete an automatic key exchange rather than completing the manual key exchange process. The automatic key exchange only works if you can communicate to both the configured transport port (by default, port 5253) and the remote ReadyNAS Admin Page. If yourr ReadyNAS cannot access the remote ReadyNAS's Admin Page over port 443, please complete the manual key exchange process.
