When configuring the wireless channel on your WAC510 access point it is possible to set the channel to a static channel, or configure the channel as Auto. Selecting Auto enables the access point to automatically select the most suitable channel for your wireless environment. Auto is the default channel selection.
Prior to firmware release V1.2.5.11 on WAC510, it was possible to select from only 4 channels on the 5Ghz radio, 36, 40, 44 or 48. It was also possible to select Auto, allowing the access point to decide which of the 4 channels best suits your wireless environment.
In firmware release V1.2.5.11 we allow DFS channels to be configured on the 5 GHz radio, however, in using these channels you need to be aware of the following scenarios;
Both scenarios are only applicable when your Country/Region is set to a European country. Europe itself is not a configurable option. Country/Region is configured in Management > System > Basic > General.
1. When selecting the channel to Auto, if the access point selects a DFS channel the radio scans for radar devices for a period of 1 minute. Furthermore, if the access point selects channel 120, 124 or 128, the radio scans for radar devices for a period of 10 minutes. During these periods the 5 GHz radio will not broadcast its SSID, and wireless clients will be unable to associate to it.
2. If a DFS channel is manually selected from Configuration > Wireless > Basic > Wireless Settings page, based on the DFS channel selected the radio scans for radar devices for a period of 1 minute or 10 minutes. During these periods the 5 GHz radio will not broadcast its SSID, and wireless clients will be unable to associate to it
