GSS108E Firmware Version 1.0.0.10

New Feature:

• Added a Switch Management Mode on the Web GUI to allow user to choose to manage the switch from Web browser only or from both Web browser and Plus Utility.

Modifications:

• Fixed the vulnerabilities of cross-site Scripting (XSS) and cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks.
• Implemented more secured encryption algorithm to work with new version of Plus Utility (V2.4.3 or higher).

WARNING:

• If your GSS108E has a serial number beginning with “4851” and its firmware version is v1.0.0.0 or v1.0.0.1, a firmware update may fail due to the bootloader code timing out. If you use Apple MAC devices, please refer to “Using Apple MAC Devices” on page 5. If you use ProSAFE Plus Utility, please follow the steps below. Units with firmware v1.0.0.3 or later version are not affected.
• Once you update your firmware to v1.0.0.10 or newer, you will no longer be able to use the ProSAFE Plus Utility versions prior to v2.4.3 to manage your GSS108E Click Switch. You will need to download the latest ProSAFE Plus Utility from http://www.netgear.com/support/product/PCU

Upgrade Procedure of ProSAFE Plus Utility:

WARNING:

Upgrade your GSS108E to firmware version V1.0.0.10 and then, afterward, use the web GUI to update the new bootloader version v1.0.0.4.

1. Download the new firmware 1.0.0.10 (GSS108E V1.0.0.10.zip) from the NETGEAR product support Website and save it on your local PC. Unzip it to the file to extract the switch firmware image “GSS108E_V1.0.0.10.bin” and bootloader image “GSS108E_loader_V1.0.0.4.bin”.
2. Download the ProSAFE Plus Utility v2.4.3 (or later version) from http://www.netgear.com/support/product/PCU
3. Decompress the ProSAFE_Plus_Utility_v2.4.3.zip (or later version).
4. Install the ProSAFE Plus Utility by double-clicking the ProSAFE Plus Utility 2.4.3.exe (or later version).
5. Connect your computer to the same network as your GSS108E switch.
6. Double-click the ProSAFE Plus Utility icon. The configuration home page displays a list of Web Managed (Plus) Switches on the network.

   Note: If you do not see your switch in the network list, click the REFRESH button or close and launch the ProSAFE Plus Utility again.  You may also need to configure your computer’s security software to allow broadcast packets to pass through (to/from) your PC’s UDP ports 63321-63324. To allow this traffic, you can create a rule in your computer’s security software, or temporarily disable the firewall, antivirus programs, or all on the computer. If you temporarily disable any security services, be sure to re-enable those services when the firmware upgrade is completed.

7. Select the GSS108E switch that you want to upgrade the firmware on.
8. When prompted, enter the password for the GSS108E switch in the password field.The default password is password.
9. Select System > Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade.The Firmware Upgrade page displays.
10. Click the BROWSE button to locate and select the firmware file GSS108E_V1.0.0.10.bin on your PC.
11. Click the Apply button.
    Warning: Do not interrupt the network connection while in progress. Do not disconnect the Ethernet cable or power off the unit until the process is complete. The update may take several minutes even though you may not see any activity on the screen.
12. When the upgrade is complete, your switch restarts. The upgrade process typically takes about two minutes.
13. Once the new firmware is successfully loaded (onto the switch), your GSS108E will automatically reboot itself. Wait at least 1 minute for the reboot to complete.
14. Open a web browser and enter the IP address of the GSS108E into the address bar and log in to the switch management GUI.
15. You are going to be prompted immediately to update the bootloader. Click the BROWSE button and select the new bootloader code “GSS108E_loader_V1.0.0.4.bin” from the location on your computer where you unzipped the firmware files.
16. Click the APPLY button.
    Warning: Do not interrupt the network connection while in progress. Do not disconnect the Ethernet cable or power off the unit until the process is complete. The update may take several minutes even though you may not see any activity on the screen.
17. When the new bootloader code is successfully loaded (onto the switch), your GSS108E will automatically reboot.

Upgrade Procedure of Web browser:

WARNING:

Upgrade your GSS108E to firmware version V1.0.0.10, afterward, use the web GUI to update the new bootloader to version V1.0.0.4.

2. Login your GSS108E. Go to GUI page “System > Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade
3. Click the Browse button and locate and select the new firmware image file ” GSS108E_V1.0.0.10.bin”.
4. Click the Apply button.
5. When the upgrade is complete, your switch restarts. The upgrade process typically takes about two minutes.
