By default, the WAC104 access point has an SSID of NETGEAR_11N on the 2.4GHz radio and NETGEAR_11AC on the 5GHz radio. The passphrase for both is sharedsecret. Security is not set on either radio by default, meaning that wireless access is open to the access point. We recommend changing the SSID and setting security.
To change the SSID and security settings on your WAC104:
- Connect your computer to the same network as the access point or connect your computer to the access point through an Ethernet cable connection.
- Launch a web browser from your computer.
- Enter the IP address that is assigned to the access point.
A login window displays. - Enter the access point’s user name and password.
Note: The user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and password are case-sensitive. - Select Setup - Wireless Setup.
- Under Wireless Network (2.4GHz b/g/n) menu, in the Name (SSID) field, enter a network name.
You can use up to 32 characters. Do not use extended ASCII characters, control ASCII characters, or ASCII characters that you compose with the Alt key on your keyboard. - From the Security Options menu, select a type of authentication.
Note: This is the passphrase that wireless clients use to access the wireless network.
Note: We recommend you change the Security options on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless networks to ensure both wireless radios are secured.- None. You do not need to specify any additional information because the network functions without authentication and encryption. This option is not recommended unless the access point is used for a wireless hot spot open to public access.
- WPA2-PSK [AES]: In the Passphrass field, you must specify the password that is required to access the network. You must enter a minimum of 8 and up to a maximum of 63 alphanumeric and special characters, or 64 hex digits.
- WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]: In the Passphrase field, you must specify the password that is required to access the network. You must enter a minimum of 8 and up to a maximum of 63 alphanumeric and special characters, or 64 hex digits.
- WPA/WPA2 Enterprise: You must specify a RADIUS profile and the network must be connected to a RADIUS server. The admin must then configure Group Key update Interval, RADIUS Server IP Address, RADIUS Server Port and Shared Key.

Note: If you are connecting to the access point wirelessly, after you apply the new SSID and security passphrase, you must reconnect using the new settings.
