Directionally, ReadyDR supports the following backup methods:

| local | local | Copy snapshots from a Share/LUN to a ReadyDR share on the same volume, or another volume, on the same ReadyNAS |
| local | remote | Copy snapshots from a Share/LUN to a ReadyDR share on another ReadyNAS |
| remote | local | Pull snapshots from a Share/LUN on a remote ReadyNAS to a local ReadyDR share |
| remote | remote | Provide relay support between two ReadyNAS devices for ReadyDR |
- Source-Local provides the ability to browse for a share or LUN.
- Source-Remote needs the remote ReadyNAS's IP or DNS address and the Share/LUN that you want to work with.
- Destination-Local allows you to create a local ReadyDR share to transmit data to.
- Destination-Remote needs the remote ReadyNAS's IP or DNS address and the ReadyDR share to transmit data to.
