This article covers ReadyNAS OS 6 Snapshot Management, and Snapshot Retention Times.
ReadyNAS OS 6 allows snapshots of shares or LUNs to be automatically taken at hourly, daily or weekly intervals.
- Hourly snapshots will be taken on the hour, every hour.
- Daily snapshots will be taken daily at midnight.
- Weekly snapshots will be taken on Friday at midnight.
Note: these times are not currently configurable.
In order to maintain a sufficient amount of free capacity, the ReadyNAS uses Smart Snapshot Management to prune older snapshots.
Snapshots are pruned based on the following retention times:
- Hourly snapshots will be kept for a period of 48 hours.
- Daily snapshots will be kept for a period of 4 weeks.
- Weekly snapshots will be kept for a period of 8 weeks.
Note: If volume usage exceeds 95% of total capacity, the oldest snapshots will be automatically pruned to attempt to bring the volume usage below 95%. If it was unable to free up some space after deleting some snapshots, it may prune all automatically taken snapshots.
Note: Smart Snapshot Management only applies to automatic snapshots. Manually taken snapshots will not be pruned.
