This article describes, in general terms, how to create a backup job on a ReadyNAS OS 6 system.

The first few times you back up data, it is a good practice to perform the backup manually. With a manual backup, you can make sure that access is granted to the remote backup source or destination and determine how long the backup takes to run. You need to know how long the backup job takes so that you can allow enough time in the schedule for it to complete before you schedule the next backup. To create a backup job:
1. Select Backup.
2. Click the Add Backup button.
A pop-up screen displays.
3. In the Backup Job Name field, enter a name for the new backup job.
The name you choose can have a maximum of 255 characters.
4. On the lefthand side of the configuration page, select the backup source (the place where you store the primary copy of your data).
5. On the righthand side of the configuration page, select a backup destination (the place where you want to store the backed-up data).

Note: The source and destination of the job cannot both be remote.
6. Click Next.
7. Set the schedule as needed:
Some common examples are below. Days in blue are enabled; days in gray are disabled.
- To run the backup job Monday to Friday after 7PM, the required configuration is:
- Backup Every: 24 hours
- Time: 19:05 and 20:05
- Repeat: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri
- To run the backup job every Saturday night after midnight, the required configuration is:
- Backup Every: 24 hours
- Time: 00:05 and 01:05
- Repeat: Sat
8. Choose to remove the contents of the backup destination before full backup. This should be used with caution.
9. Press Finish.
