On older NETGEAR routers, you can optionally configure Wireless Encryption Protection (WEP) security instead of WPA on the 2.4 GHz band. We recommend against using WEP security if your devices support other options. For more information, see the following articles:

If you use legacy WiFi devices that only support WEP security, you might want to set up WEP security despite its limitations. You can configure WEP from the router web interface.
To configure WEP security on your older NETGEAR router:
- Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your router’s network.
- Enter www.routerlogin.net.
A login window displays. - Enter the router user name and password.
The user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
The BASIC Home page or Smart Wizard interface displays. - If you have a Genie router, select Advanced > Setup > Wireless Setup.
If you have a Smart Wizard router, select Setup > Wireless Settings.
Note: Your 2.4 GHz network mode must be set to Up to 54Mbps to enable the WEP security option. WEP is not available on the 5 GHz band. - In the Security Options section, select WEP.
- From the Authentication Type drop-down, select Automatic.
- From the Encryption Strength drop-down, select 64-bit or 128-bit.
128-bit is recommended if your legacy devices support it. - Select Key 1 and enter a key.
If you selected 64-bit encryption, enter 10 hexadecimal digits.
If you selected 128-bit encryption, enter 26 hexadecimal digits. - Click or tap Apply.
Your settings are saved.
